How to Check Your Computer 'Department' or 'Device Category'

When first setting up your University Managed Desktop (UMD) computer, you would have selected a ‘Department’ in the Company Portal, also referred to as ‘Device Category’. It is important that the choice is correct as various UIS background processes and systems use it to apply settings that may be specific to your department or the school. CSCS may also ask you to check this field as a troubleshooting step.

Follow these steps to see what it is set to:

  • Open the Company Portal

  • Click, Home, THIS DEVICE

  • Under Device information confirm what is set for the Device Category
