Microsoft Teams - Desktop Sharing & Remote Support

Introduction

Microsoft Teams can be used to share a view of an application, or your whole desktop, and to allow the other person to remote control your computer. This guide explains how to give access to your computer.

Requirements

  • Both parties running the MS Teams application (the Browser version does not support this function)
  • Fast Internet
  • Reliable connection - wired better than wireless

Instructions

  1. Start a chat session, audio call or video call with the person you want to Share / Allow control of your screen. For this example I will use Chat.
  2. Select the Chat with the person you want to share your screen with:
  3. In the top right corner, you'll see options for video, audio, or screen sharing. Select the Screen Sharing:
  4. You'll be presented with options for what you want to share - either your whole Desktop, or a certain Window
  5. If you want to give the other person remote control, choose Desktop. If you are using multiple monitors there will be multiple listed here. Choose your main monitor.

  6. At the top of the screen you'll see:

    then
  7. Click Give control and select the name of the person to give control to.

  8. Alternatively the other person may request control of your Desktop from their end, in which case the following prompt will appear. Click Allow.
  9. The other person can now remotely control your computer.

Please note: The other person won't be able to control anything that requires administrative rights (such as installing a program or changing major settings) and so will need you to do this for them - instructions will be provided (as required).
