How to setup your own devices like freezers etc. to send email

  • This page documents the settings required for devices like freezers, scanners & automated notification devices like T-Scan, that are not managed by CSCS.

Note: Setting up printers that are connected to the network to be able to scan-to-email should be set up by CSCS, so please log a request via the CSCS Service Desk here - https://itsupport.medschl.cam.ac.uk

Settings

  • See the 2 steps below on how to set up your own device.

From Dec 1, 2023 following the move of the CSCS email system to the UIS Exchange Online service, all current device settings need to be changed to these new settings, see Steps 1 & 2 below.

Step 1: Set up the “Send-From” Email Address

  • To be able to send emails from these devices it must use a valid email address. This means CSCS will need to create that email address for you, before it is able to send & deliver emails.

  • If you have not had a “send-from” email address set up by CSCS, please contact the Service Desk to get set up, so emails are not rejected when sent.

Step 2: Set Up the Server Details

  • The settings required for SMTP email sending to work are:

Setting Name

Setting

SMTP Server

smtp.cam.ac.uk

Port

25

Size Limit

100MB

SSL/TLS

Off / Disabled

Send-from email address
