Check your MS Office version (MacOS) & Self-serve update

Introduction

This page has instructions on how to update your Microsoft Office for Mac on a CSCS-Supported Mac from MS Office 2016 or 2019 to version 2021.

Please note that we would recommend that you install Microsoft 365 version of MS Office, or MS Office 2021 as a minimum, as the most up-to-date and secure version. This will mean that your Mac will need to be running macOS 11, ie. Big Sur or above. You may therefore need to upgrade your macOS. If you cannot upgrade your macOS any higher, you may need to replace your hardware.

Check your Office Version

  1. Confirm your current version of Office for Mac

    1. Launch Word

    2. Click “Word” in the menu-bar and then click “About Microsoft Word”:

      Mac About Word
    3. In the window that pops up, if it is version 15.29 or earlier then you must update your Office to work with Exchange Online.

Office 2016 for Mac (version 15.29)

  2. If you are running Office for Mac 2016 (version 15.29 or earlier) then you should upgrade - ensure all Office applications are closed.
