CSCS uses the computer name Computer Name and Serial Number to connect to it remotely, and to track information about it in our systems. 

This article describes how to quickly find the computer namethis information.

  • Open the Settings application - Either , either by going to the Start menu and click the Settings button:

    Or by typing "Settings" into the search and open the Settings application: 

  • Ensure the System tab is selected, which is usually the first item on the left side of the window, and ; the UMD hostname should be displayed at the top:

  • Alternatively, if you open up the Company Portal app (should be pinned on the taskbar or application (which you can open it from a Windows search) the then select Home, it will show the UMD hostnameComputer Name UMD-****, see below:

  • For devices on running an older versions of Windows or such as Windows 10 and a non-UMD devices device, you can open a Command Prompt application, by typing in CMD “cmd” into a Windows search, then within the command prompt type: “Hostname” and press enterCommand Prompt windows, type “hostname” and then press the Enter key, which will display the computer name. :

  • For UMD devices the Computer name is the Serial Number.

  • To find it Click the Apple Logo Image Added in the top left corner of the screen and select About This Mac, then the serial number is displayed in the details

  • For non UMD devices, click the Apple Logo  in the top left corner of the screen and select System Preferences:

NOTE: Differences on macoS 13/Ventura

Differences

  • On macOS 13 (aka "Ventura"), the settings are organised slightly differently.

  • Go to Apple logo > System Settings > General > Sharing and scroll until you see your computer name listed under Hostname at the bottom of the settings pane:
