Connecting to the UIS VPN on Windows 11
Connecting to the VPN
This is a version of the UIS VPN Setup guide adapted to the CSCS Guides with information on how to connect to the UIS VPN on Windows 11. The original UIS guide can be found here https://help.uis.cam.ac.uk/service/network-services/remote-access/uis-vpn/windows10.
Start by creating a UIS Network Access Token, using the token page https://tokens.uis.cam.ac.uk/ in the same way as you create a Eduroam Token. Keep the details on screen to copy into the setup below.
Go to Settings on your Windows device and search for VPN Settings.
Click on Add VPN button on the right hand side
Complete the form with the following settings:
VPN Provider = Windows (Built-in)
Connection Name = Cambridge UIS VPN
Server name or address = vpn.uis.cam.ac.uk
VPN Type = IKEv2
Type of sign-in info = Username and password
Username = Use the username from the token page
Password = Use the password from the token page - (16 lowercase letters and digits)
Click Save.
Select Cambridge VPN and click Advanced options
At the bottom of that page you will see More VPN properties, click the Edit button next to it
Choose the Security tab and make sure the settings match the below screenshot.
Then click ok to close that settings window
On the task bar, click on the Wi-Fi icon, and then top-right you should see the VPN as a option on the top right
Click on the VPN icon, select Cambridge VPN and choose Connect.
If you have successfully connected you should see a small blue icon over the Network symbol.
Disconnecting from VPN
You can see your VPN status by looking at the Network symbol. The little blue badge means it is connected to the VPN.
To disconnect click on the Network symbol, click on Cambridge VPN
Click on Cambridge VPN again in the window that pops up and click the Disconnect button that appears.
The VPN will automatically disconnect if your computer goes to hibernate mode or gets turned off.
