How to move your files/data to UIS OneDrive
Purpose
Instead of saving your work-related personal files onto your laptop of desktop computer, it’s best to save it into Cloud storage as it’s backed up & then available via the Internet. All University staff get access to UIS OneDrive as standard.
Some CSCS customers may have used the CSCS OneDrive solution in the past. This service is no longer available so if you are still able to access your data there, it should be moved to UIS OneDrive, as soon as possible.
If you have any work-related personal files (not group drive/files) then you should move it all to UIS OneDrive, see below on how to move data from various places.
Please read the UIS page on Data Security Classification and Guidance regarding where to store data: https://help.uis.cam.ac.uk/service/storage/onedrive/security-guidance

Checking if you’re signed in to CSCS OneDrive
To check if you are signed in to the CSCS OneDrive there are two methods:
Method one
Hover over the OneDrive icon by the clock (you may have two OneDrive icons - hover over each in turn to check):
After a few seconds you should see text pop up above, if it is the CSCS OneDrive it will say “OneDrive - Clinical School Computing Service”:
If it is the UIS OneDrive it will say “OneDrive - University of Cambridge”:
Method two
The alternative method to checking if you are signed in to the CSCS OneDrive is:
Open Explorer
Click on “Local Disk (C:)” on the left:
Scroll down and go into the folder “Users” and then your CRSID. If you are signed in to OneDrive you should see “OneDrive - Clinical School Computing Service” or “OneDrive - University of Cambridge”:
If you see “OneDrive - Clinical School Computing Service” then you are signed in to the CSCS OneDrive. If not then you are not.
Moving your data to UIS OneDrive
Using the OneDrive App (Recommended!)
To move your data to the UIS OneDrive - once you are signed in (see section above):
As the copy may take some time, if using a laptop please ensure it is plugged into power & can be left in place while copying!
Go to folder with the files & folders you want to move (e.g. your Druva folder, local folder or the CSCS OneDrive folder)
Select the files & folders (press Ctrl+Shift+A to select everything).
Right-click on one of the selected files, and choose “Copy” (or press Ctrl+C)
Go to the UIS OneDrive Folder:
Either by clicking on the UIS OneDrive icon by the clock and then clicking “Open Folder”:
OR:
Open Explorer, go to C:\Users\<username>” and double-click on “OneDrive - University of Cambridge”:
Once in the OneDrive Folder, you can create a new folder, and then right-click and choose “Paste” (or press Ctrl+V) to paste the copied files & folders. Depending on the amount of data, it may take some time to copy - the machine should be left on & signed in (though locking the screen is fine) while it copies.
Via the Web Interface (Not Recommended)
It is possible to upload data via the OneDrive Web Interface, however we do not recommend it - for small numbers of files or small amounts of data it works, however for larger files or larger numbers of files it is prone to crashing & timing out. This can cause issues when trying to then determine what has and has not uploaded correctly - the OneDrive App handles these better!
Go to the Office Web Interface: https://www.office.com/
If prompted, sign in with your University of Cambridge (Raven) credentials
Click on the 9-squares in the top left corner, then click “OneDrive”:
Click on “My Files” in the menu on the left to see the list of Folders - if you want to upload the files / folders into a specific folder, you can browse to it from this list:
Once you are in the folder you wish to upload to, click the “+ Add new” button at the top-left, and then choose either “Files upload“ and select the file(s) you want to upload or “Folder upload“ and choose the folder to upload:
You may receive a warning about uploading the files:
Click “Upload” to confirm you want to upload to OneDrive
The upload will start - depending on how many files, and how big they are, it may take some time to finish uploading. You should see a progress bar at the bottom of the window:
Once completed it should change to notify you:
And the files / folder should appear in the list:
