Clinical School Rooms - A Guide to Using Them

Getting started

  • All the Audio-Visual (AV) equipment is powered on and controlled via the Crestron Touch Panel found on the lectern (or on the button-panels in the meeting rooms SR7 and SR8).

  • To power them on, tap on “Press Here To Power On” and you will briefly see a “Powering On” screen, this should take approx. 15 seconds to load.

Powering on the system at the touchscreen will power on all display and audio equipment and also lower projection screens as required, so there is no need to power these on separately.

Presenting

  • Once the Audio Visual (AV) equipment is switched on, you will be given a list of sources on the left of the screen, see below, that you can use to present with.

University PC

  • If you have a University account, use this PC and log in using your University account and password, which are available in all rooms.

  • Once logged in, you can sign into MS Teams, Zoom, and Outlook accounts as usual, although you may need to verify your account with Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) details.

  • The University PC comes pre-installed with an extensive range of applications, however, if you require any additional apps then please contact the CSCS Service Desk, see contact details below.

  • The microphone and camera are available when logged in to the University PC and can be managed via the Touch Panel on the lectern.

  • If you would like to use a USB stick, then you will still need to log in and use one of the USB ports on the front of the PC. Please ensure that it is safe/clear of virus' before plugging it in.

If you do not have a University, or a NHS account:

  • You can use still the University PC and log in using the “room account”; the username and password for the “room account” can be found on the lectern in each room.

  • We highly recommend only using web-based apps when using the “room account” as it is shared account. You should always log out of any system you have used before logging off the PC.

NHS PC

  • If you have a NHS account, use this PC and login using your NHS account and password.

  • The microphone and camera are not available when logged in to the NHS PC and cannot be managed via the Touch Panel on the lectern.

  • NHS PCs are not available in meeting rooms, but are available in seminar rooms and lecture theatres.

Laptop HDMI

  • If you have brought your own laptop and wish to connect it to the Audio Visual equipment, via a HDMI cable, use this option.

  • Connecting your laptop via HDMI cable is available in all rooms and would highly recommend using HDMI connections wherever possible.

Laptop VGA

  • If you have brought your own laptop and wish to connect it to the Audio Visual equipment, via a VGA cable, use this option.

  • Connecting your laptop via VGA cable is available in all rooms.

Cisco Video Conferencing

In addition:

  • Other devices may use a different connector to HDMI, for example a DisplayPort or mini-DisplayPort. We provide adapters for these in all teaching rooms connected to the HDMI cable as shown.

  • Devices with only USB-C ports will also need an adaptor to connect, we have a limited number we can loan out on request.

  • A wireless pointer is also available in the lecture theatres.

Audio and volume controls

  • All rooms have speakers for audio playback, for example when playing videos.

  • Volume levels (circled in red below) for these are controlled from the Touch Panel and are reset automatically when systems are powered on, to avoid loud surprises, so may need some gentle adjustment.

Microphones and voice amplification

  • If you need help with amplifying your voice, the larger rooms, such as the Lecture Theatres, and the Linked Rooms have microphones for voice amplification via ceiling speakers.

  • Additional lapel and handheld microphones are available from the custodians on Reception.

  • Microphone volumes are controlled automatically, so a normal speaking volume should be what your aiming for.

Wi-Fi availability

  • If you wish to use your laptop, there are no wired network connections available in our rooms, so you will need to use one of the two wireless networks available in the Clinical School building:

    • UniOfCam-Guest - available for anyone to use. Find UniOfCam-Guest under your device WiFi Settings and then following the prompts to register.

    • Eduroam - is available to University staff, but must be set up in advance, so should then connect automatically in the building.

When you are finished

  • Once you have logged out, on the Touch Panel, select “Power Off System”.

  • Remember to take your adaptors and memory sticks with you, but leave ours behind for others to use.
