Configuring a Mobile Phone for Exchange Online

Introduction

Anyone whose mailbox has been migrated to Microsoft's Exchange Online service can add their Exchange Online mailbox to their mobile device by following the steps below.

Below we outline steps for Apple's Mail app, as well as the mobile app versions of Microsoft Outlook for iOS and Android.


Our Recommendation

For the easiest configuration and most consistent user experience, UIS and CSCS both recommend using the Microsoft Outlook mobile apps for Android & iOS. These Microsoft apps are designed by Microsoft to integrate with Microsoft Exchange Online. Other mail apps will require more steps to configure for Exchange Online and may not work as expected.


Requirements

  • An Android or iOS (Apple) mobile device
  • An Exchange Online email account
  • Your Raven password
  • A WiFi or mobile data connection

 How To Set Up Outlook for Android (Click here to expand)
  1. On your Android phone, search the Play Store for "Microsoft Outlook" (or click this link)
  2. Install the app and open it
  3. Click Add Account
  4. Enter your email address in the box in the format: CRSid@cam.ac.uk
  5. Click Continue
  6. A University of Cambridge authentication page appears. Sign in with your email address (as formatted above) and Raven password
  7. Click Maybe Later and wait for the Syncing message to clear
  8. Your account is now added!

 How To Set Up Outlook for iOS (Click here to expand)
  1. On your Apple device, search the App Store for "Microsoft Outlook" (or click this link)
  2. Install the app and open it
  3. Click Add Account
  4. Enter your email address in the box in the format: CRSid@cam.ac.uk
  5. Click Continue
  6. A University of Cambridge authentication page appears. Sign in with your email address (in the same format as above) and Raven password
  7. Click Maybe Later and wait for the Syncing message to clear
  8. Your account is now added!
  9. Choose whether you wish to enable Notifications for the app



 How To Set Up Mail for iOS (Click here to expand)
  1. On your Apple Device go to Settings > Passwords & Accounts > Add Account > Exchange
  2. Enter your email address in the box in the format: CRSid@cam.ac.uk
  3. In the Description box, enter a useful description (e.g "SLCU Mail", "Work Mail", etc) or leave it at the default ("Exchange")
  4. Tap Next the Sign In
  5. A University of Cambridge authentication page appears. Sign in with your email address (in the same format as above) and Raven password
  6. At the pop-up, choose which items you wish to sync to your Apple Device and click Save.
  7. Your Exchange Online account is now added to Mail!
  8. Open Mail and give it some time to complete an initial sync of your mailbox.
