How to find the IP address of a computer

CSCS sometimes will need your computer's IP address for troubleshooting, this isn't something that we can remotely check most of the time.  This article describes how to quickly find the computer name.

Windows

 Instructions for Windows
  • Click the Start Menu and type cmd in the Search Programs and Files box:

  • In the window that appears type ipconfig and press Enter:

 

  • This will provide the ip address of the computer on the line “IPv4 Address” under the section labelled "Ethernet adpater Ethernet" like below.


OS X

 instructions for a Mac
  • Go to system preferences:

  • Click on network and select “Ethernet” and look at the IP address listed here:
