Microsoft Teams - Desktop Sharing & Remote Support
Introduction
Microsoft Teams can be used to share a view of an application, or your whole desktop, and to allow the other person to remote control your computer. This guide explains how to give access to your computer.
Requirements
- Both parties running the MS Teams application (the Browser version does not support this function)
- Fast Internet
- Reliable connection - wired better than wireless
Instructions
- Start a chat session, audio call or video call with the person you want to Share / Allow control of your screen. For this example I will use Chat.
- Select the Chat with the person you want to share your screen with:
- In the top right corner, you'll see options for video, audio, or screen sharing. Select the Screen Sharing:
- You'll be presented with options for what you want to share - either your whole Desktop, or a certain Window
- If you want to give the other person remote control, choose Desktop. If you are using multiple monitors there will be multiple listed here. Choose your main monitor.
- At the top of the screen you'll see:
then - Click Give control and select the name of the person to give control to.
- Alternatively the other person may request control of your Desktop from their end, in which case the following prompt will appear. Click Allow.
- The other person can now remotely control your computer.
Please note: The other person won't be able to control anything that requires administrative rights (such as installing a program or changing major settings) and so will need you to do this for them - instructions will be provided (as required).
